Cindy Jackson is a Social Worker & RTI's very first Clinically Qualified Resource Therapist
based in the USA About Cindy
Born and raised in Trinidad and Tobago, Cindy moved to America as a teenager after the 1990 coup. She attended the University of South Florida and pursued a degree in Psychology, and later, a Masters in Social Work at the University of Michigan. At the University of Michigan she was awarded a full scholarship ride through her program including the Hartford Fellowship in Geriatrics and was the student keynote speaker upon her graduation having completed her master’s program in 18 months.
Upon graduation she started her career as the Deputy Director of the Association for Geriatrics in Higher Education where she supervised interns, published the quarterly newsletter and administered the awarding of grant funding to University programs in Gerontology. She did not like it and realized that she wanted to become a clinician. So taking a big paycut and step backwards she left that job and became an intern and spent the next few years getting her clinical hours, supervision and attained her Clinical License which enables her to practice independently and do the greatest variety of work possible. With her clinical license attained she married and started a family and has a lovely son Miles. The experience of motherhood brought another level of wisdom and experience to her understanding of life, responsibilities and family. Cindy spent many years working with people who were in the worst moments of their lives. Her work in Hospice in Chattanooga Tennessee taught her that there is a difference between a good death and a bad death and also about living. Her experiences working in drug rehab in Navarre Florida taught her that addicts are some of the most amazing and tragic people and that they can and do conquer addiction. Her experience in inpatient mental health in Las Vegas Nevada almost made her lose her faith until she realized that this was them at their worst and that they too get better but really skilled clinicians are essential. She went into private practice on her own in 2014 and has passionately continued seeking ways to help mental illness, trauma and suffering. She is an EMDR trained clinician since 2007 which was the best treatment she had found to help with trauma. That is until she found Resource Therapy. RT has transformed her practice and enables her to relieve trauma symptoms in clients in a gentle and client centered way that was often difficult with other modalities of treatment. When she’s not working as a therapist she’s taking her own journeys in her kayak, oil painting, volunteering at The Animal Foundation, and enjoying life in Las Vegas, Nevada with her family and their dog Karma and cat Zeus. |
